IDENTITY
Hello, I am AXXXX ZXXXXX, or as you know me; Astrophe.
I am a young, self-taught independent fashion designer, working entirely on my own.
I started my brand in 2023 with only $400 in my bank account out of pure boredom and desire to invest my time into trying something new - never expecting it to become as big as it has become now.
I am entirely self taught; I have no professional experience in fashion or design, however, I have always been creatively inclined - Since a young age, I have always loved creating. Whether it be through making art, building, or writing, the ability to bring a concept of my mind to life has always been very exciting. This attitude led me to start creating my own clothes after being lent a sewing machine by a relative; Having never even seen a sewing machine in person before, I learned the basics by immediately attempting to custom pattern and sew an adjustable shoulder bag that could transform into a wearable vest, and after sewing from sunset until sunrise, I had become infatuated with the art of fashion.
The Astrophe design aesthetic is quite multifaceted, and certainly still developing day by day, however the substantive element of my design has remained my personal perspective of creativity.
Creativity, in my eyes, is the ability to translate your environment into art; it is not dependent on inherent skill or aptitude, but rather the effort of noticing the underlying details, and the ability to extract and reassemble them into different mediums. This philosophy is the connection between all of my pieces; from the Riot Tee which was inspired by street protests, to the Rosie Sweats which mimic the form of my pet cat, each of my pieces is a reflection of my own surroundings.
My lack of professional experience may be a blessing in disguise, as it allows me to leave open opportunities for experimentation, which have resulted in some of my best work, such as the Decay Denim Pc;01 - one of my most widely loved creations. The heavy and intricate distressing which makes this piece special is unconventional, as the entire piece was distressed by hand with only a razor; an extremely painstaking, yet worthwhile process. Rather than my dulled razor blade, the industry standard tool of choice would be a wired brush, or a dremel, which cannot achieve the same effect.
I aim to continue my creative experimentation to bring new works to life, and in the long term, my vision is to bring a new sense of creativity into fashion, and to cement my brand as a successful artistic outlet that can stand the test of time; enlivening new projects and ideas that can be appreciated for years to come.
